Have you ever stopped and asked yourself why your sorority was founded?
If your first response is that your sorority was founded because of philanthropy, campus involvement, and social events, you are wrong.
Our organizations were founded on one reason - inclusion.
These women wanted to be included. Some of our organizations tried to join men's fraternities and were denied so they created their own. Others did not like what they saw in organizations already on their campus, so they created their own. Our founders just wanted someone to make them feel like a part of something on their campus. Sisterhood came from that.
There are so many times that we get caught up in philanthropy events and social functions that we forget that we all joined our sororities to feel included. From my experiences and the women I have known in sororities, a large portion of us joined because they knew no one on their campus. I think this is important to remember when being on the other side of recruitment and interacting with your Sisters. At the end of the day we are all looking for the same thing. Sometimes we just need a little reminder.
